Friends of HAS Haiti
Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, that seeks to expand awareness in North America of the culture and art of the Haitian people, and of their needs for health services and economic development. Through this expanded awareness and concern, the Friends facilitate support for Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in order to assist the people of Haiti’s Artibonite Valley in improving their health and well-being. We invite you to read about our projects in Haiti and join our community of friends! (Blog title image (c) 2007 Karl Grobl)

About the Rehabilitation Services Integration Initiative (RSII)

Rehabilitation services have been virtually non-existent in Haiti, a need brought dramatically to the forefront by the 2010 earthquake. Thousands suffered debilitating injuries and the loss of limbs, and will require life-long support. In 2008, in collaboration with Health Volunteers Overseas and HAS Haiti, the Friends initiated a training program for rehabilitation technicians (the RTTP), which has now expanded with the aim to build a national model for rehabilitation services in Haiti. This new program will help more Haitians with disabilities regain mobility, productivity and happier lives ... READ MORE

About the HAS Haiti Timber Re-Introduction Project (HTRIP)

Ninety-eight percent of Haiti has been deforested due to logging for timber, slash-and-burn agriculture, and the cutting of trees to fill the great demand for charcoal. Haiti, once known as “La Perle des Antilles” for its lush plant life and mahogany forests, has lost all of its natural forest cover and has severely impoverished water resources.

The environmental problems in Haiti have a direct, negative impact on its people’s economic condition, their health and quality of life.

Conservation in the developing world is a complex problem that requires innovative solutions. Understanding that agro-forestry in formerly deforested landscapes is a promising strategy, we developed HTRIP to address the environmental, economic and health needs that are so urgent in Haiti ...

The Haitian Art & Culture Outreach Program

The Friends hopes to promote not only understanding but appreciation of the Haitian people and their culture through Haiti's visionary artwork.

Since its founding, the Friends has amassed a diverse and vibrant collection of original artwork and craftspieces that are available for sale and for educational exhibitions.
